The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. The Rules can be found here. And this week's post can be found here.
The second week of the year is over and I've been really good with all my goals. Despite snow, ice and rain we went out everyday for a short run. At one point, I think it was Wednesday, a car drove past, soaked me in a wave of ice water and I still kept going. Lola, the dog, was even less pleased than I was. She kept trying to drag me back home.
I went to the cinema for the first time this year and watched Silence and Collateral Beauty. If anyone cares about films and uses Letterboxd, here's my profile. I might occasionally review a film on here as well. But I wasn't enamoured with either, so they didn't inspire me to write all that much. This week I've been reading the first book in the Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson: The Way of Kings and I've been eyeing the first book in the Expanse series: Leviathan Wakes. I've also got The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt from the library, because I need more books on my tbr list.
I made a chilli with venison. It was the first time I cooked with venison and it came out quite tasty.
My blog posts this week were: The Mystery Blogger Award, Top Ten Tuesday and two book reviews, Red Rising and A Man Called Ove.
The writing is going well, though I have the impression, I am better at coming up with ideas and premises than actual plots and characters. I wish just having ideas was a job, I'd be excellent at that.
Next week, I'd like to read a Margaret Atwood novel called, The Year of the Flood and maybe The Goldfinch. For now, it's late Sunday morning and I need a third coffee.
Feel free to comment with your own Sunday post and I'll drop by and check it out. I hope everyone had a good week.
Ah shame, I totally feel for you about the ideas and writing :( I have the exact same problem! Hope things get easier :)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week and happy reading!
Amy @ A Magical World Of Words
Thank you :) And hope your week is filled with great books!
DeleteWow, sloshed with icy water! Not good at all, but brave you, slogging along despite it all.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week...and I didn't really enjoy The Year of the Flood or the other two books in the trilogy...and I usually love Atwood. Oh, well.
I'm curious about Collateral Beauty...I saw Hidden Figures yesterday, and really enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing..and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
Honestly, Collateral Beauty isn't worth a cinema ticket. It has a great cast but the script is so cheesy and filled with clichés, wait for it to stream or rent. Though, who knows maybe you like cheesy? In that case, go watch it. I was very disappointed for a number of reasons, but they're all spoilers.
DeleteI've not liked the Handmaiden's Tale. I've loved Oryx and Crake. So, I'm very curious whether or not I'll like Year of the Flood.
Thank you for stopping by :)
I totally feel ya on the ideas part of writing. I have excellent book ideas with complex worlds and characters, but the execution of said ideas is so hard! lol
ReplyDeleteI would love to try chili with venison. I need to add that to my food bucket list.
The execution is basically the hardest part!
DeleteAnd it was really delicious! Didn't think it would be, but the venison added a nicely different taste to it. Loved it.
Running in the snow and rain and ice---now that's dedication!
ReplyDeleteYum, my dad used to make chili (maybe he still does, I don't know lol), and I guess I never really thought about it but he most likely used venison since that's just the meat we always had the most of when I was growing up. It's tasty though! Glad your chili came out well :-)
Venison is delicious but we have it rarely. I was quite surprised how good it was! Thank you for stopping by!
DeleteOh that happened to me once, I was visiting a university (and on a date) when a bus went by and totally drenched me. It was bad lol. So I can relate. I've been seriously thinking of trying the stormlight archives, maybe this year i will do it!
ReplyDeleteChili w/ venison sounds great.
So far the book is really good. Just finished Part 1! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteWow! I'm so proud of you!! Sticking to your resolutions despite the hurdles :) And glad to see the writing is going well too! I hope you get more amazing ideas! my week has been real busy..Was attending a literary fest for the past three days..Now have to catch up on blogging and commenting :) Have an awesome week ahead <3
ReplyDeleteGood luck with catching up and have an awesome week :)
DeleteWow! Well done on sticking to your goals and even after being sloshed by icy water!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I was more imaginative I'd try my hand at writing but I don't have any wonderful ideas. :) For now I'm content to read all the great stories other people have thought up.
Hope you have a fantastic week and continue to stick to those resolutions!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment :) Hope you have a fabulous week!
DeleteLike the post office huh? Nor snow, ice or rain? :) Glad you have stick to goal! Oh I hate when cars do that!!! brrrrrr you must have been cold! O.M.G I just visited your Letterboxd and Pan's Labyrinth is one of your favorite movies! THAT IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIMES!!! and I never knew of anyone aside from my family that had watched it!!! I like to review movies too so I'll look forward to all your movie reviews :) Maybe I should post a review for Pan's Labyrinth! :)
ReplyDeleteI have Handmaid by Margaret Atwood on my nightstand because I had PROMISED to read one of her books and my WIP touches some of the same topics this book does but hummm... not sure I like her writing style much.
Well it seems I'll be visiting your blog a lot since you also write, English is not your first language, and like to cook too. It seems our blogs have lots in common. :)
I have never cooked with Venison! I should probably put that in my list :)
Now off to the The Mystery Blogger Award post so I can learn more about it. Thanks for the nomination Olivia :)
ok I just realize that you may not live in the US and may not know what I meant by "like the post office" :D The US post office slogan is "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" :)
ReplyDeleteAh! I was a bit confused because I'm in the UK! But that makes sense! Pan's Labyrinth is such a great film. Though, I don't know if you remember, but the marketing was way off? I thought it was some sort of fairytale when I went to the cinema... and then it was REALLY not. Very visceral. Amazing cinematography and so many ways to interpret the ending.
DeleteI actually wasn't very impressed with Atwood's Handmaid. I'd heard so many good things about her, but that one disappointed me.
Thank you for stopping by :)
Way to go on keeping up with your goals! It's so easy to let them fall to the wayside so congrats on sticking with them! I was excited about Collateral Beauty when I first saw the trailer but none of the reviews I saw were very positive so I decided to give it a pass. I skipped my Sunday Post last week since I was out of town. I was busy doing other things plus it's such a pain to post using my iPad. Hope you've had a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteTanya @ Girl Plus Books
Thank you for commenting :) And yes, Collateral Beauty was sadly a big letdown. Hope you've had a good week.
